The Leading by Example Program intends to utilize funds granted to the Massachusetts DOER by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) to purchase and distribute LED bulbs to state agencies. The Phillips L-prize Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulb is equivalent to the standard 60-75 watt incandescent bulbs that are scheduled to be phased out by federal regulations by 2014. The LED bulb is an American made product which produces 900 lumens and only uses 9.7 watts of power (a standard 60 watt incandescent bulb emits 800 lumens.) LBE will award a quantity of LED bulbs to agencies based on available budgets and based on a first come basis until the inventory is depleted.
