EnergyGridIQ newsflash: 2/15

1) Transportation takes up a lot of the world’s energy draw. Whether it is cars, planes, trains, trucks, or boats, we are constantly burning (predominantly oil) to power our addiction to moving. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just be teleported around?
Well, the dream may become a reality sooner than we think. With the advent of particle entanglement: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2012/02/new-quantum-record-physicists-entangle-8-photons/, teleportation might be something we are actually, no joke, able to do. Imagine a world in which you could simply press a button and become rearranged at any quantum entanglement center. The technology is simply incredible.
Truth be told, teleportation is years and years and years away, if it is even possible. However, even in the world of energy (which seems so plagued by the burdens of reality) we like to dream a little. Especially here at EIQ.

2) The sum of many parts is often incredibly large. Researchers have begun to understand that and moves have been made to look up, and out, rather than at progressively smaller pieces. There is a moving shift in the scientific and engineering communities to look at systems rather than components. This is probably best exemplified by the recent push by climate modelers to incorporate microbial organisms in climate change models. Because microbes make up such an incredibly larger percentage of the biomass (and metabolic processes) on earth, it is foolish not to account for their reactions and interactions. Take a look: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/02/120214145337.htm
3) There is an amazing link between meteorology and energy markets. Take a glimpse at this map http://www.eia.gov/todayinenergy/detail.cfm?id=4990 and then take a look at some of the current energy trends in the fall. Let me know what you see.

We’re all about patterns here at EnergyGridIQ. As always check back for all your energy related news and features.
